You can add buyer fees to transactions processed through the Virtual Terminal to cover the cost of processing payments or accepting cards.
The Virtual Terminal supports two types of buyer fees:
Only one buyer fee can be applied per transaction.
- Surcharge Fees: A fee to offset credit card processing costs. Surcharges apply only to credit cards, not debit or prepaid, cannot exceed 3% for USA merchants or 2.5% for Canadian merchants, and are not allowed in all states. Merchants must be enabled by Finix to process surcharges.
- Convenience Fees: A fee for providing an alternative payment channel (e.g., online or by phone). Must be a flat amount.
Note
Surcharges are not supported for ACH transactions.
